We are heartbroken by the events unfolding across the U.S.

Here at GOVERN for IMPACT we believe Martin Luther King Jr. was right when he said, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”.

This is a painful moment in what has been an acutely painful year. COVID‐19 has taken a disproportionate toll on Black Americans, a symptom of ongoing racial inequity in the U.S. On top of which, we continue to witness the targeting and murder of unarmed Black Americans.

Ahmaud Arbery was gunned down while jogging in Glynn County, Georgia. Breonna Taylor was shot to death in her Louisville, Kentucky home by policy exercising a no‐knock warrant. A white woman threatened Christian Cooper, who was bird watching in Central Park, with potentially deadly policy force.

George Floyd was murdered in Minneapolis by a police officer who knelt on his neck for more than 8 minutes – even after Floyd cried out, “I can’t breathe”.

And there have been too many others before them. Systematic racism has existed in the U.S. , Canada, and the world for far too long. We stand with those who are peacefully protesting to demand justice.

There is still so much work to do. We can only ‐ we must – move forward together. We are working on what we can do together at GOVERN. We call upon Boards of Directors across our world to critically evaluate and provide thought‐leadership as
to what they and their organizations and businesses can do.
